a moment too late

The sun slowly died

As she watched the edge of the sea

Another day gone, another wish lost

Another reason to believe life is cruel as can be

The waves were risky, the shore safe

But there was no hope for the poor waif

The shore was not her home

She was alone

All she wanted was a ship to come and carry her on its deck and flee

Along the horizons, towards the sky, to the clouds, beyond the eyes could see

Another sunrise, another hope

No sign of the ship, only a boat

Offering her a ride she couldn’t deny

So for one last time she waved the shore goodbye

This was not what she wanted, but accepted it as her fate

Turning back to the shore now, she saw a ship, just a moment too late
