in the core of darkness

This familiar whistle of the summer breeze

And with it the gush of memories

I relive them all, and as I fall

Into this eternal darkness of the night

I feel at ease, almost like home,

A comfort in the absence of light

As it opens its long black wings

In silence, my solitude sings

Songs that only I know, songs that I adore

The stillness of the night seems to play

Music, more soulful than any hum of the day

And in its embrace, I weep like a child

For I find solace at least for a while

It holds all my secrets, all my fears

Without judging, with no complaints

Strokes my hair, wipes my tears

As I hold on to that tiny thread

Uncertain of what lies ahead

A series of pictures runs through my mind

A black and white album from a different time

The present, however has a lot of grey

I hold on begging it to stay

With every plead, it moves further away

The  harder I grip, the more it slips

And I am left back in the arms of darkness

Yet I long for what doesn’t belong

To me…..

An orchestra

The rumble of the running train

The splatter of the pouring rain

Each creates a magical symphony

Not just a random noise in vain

The rustle of the autumn leaves

The chirping birds in spring eves

A different note, the same pattern

Interlaced in time as nature weaves

The bustle of the busy street

The flicker of the summer heat

The cry of a newborn child

The tapping of a dancer’s feet

Every sound there was and will be, is not lost, but stored rather safely

In the womb of time, in the form of rhyme

And songs that are a thousand years old, stories that have been told and retold

Of loves found and lost, of roads walked and crossed

Of peaceful days in white sands, of journeys made in alien lands

And of victories and defeats and loyalties and deceits

All floats around like the eons old wind,

Listen to it, it plays a song,

And when you hear it, sing along

For you play a part too, to help it carry on…….

return of the season

The night gets darker, I walk by the moonlight

I feel your presence, yet I long for your sight

The small café on the other side of the road

Is still open, facing your quiet, lonely abode

The tired old autumn leaves fall to the ground

Waiting perhaps, to return as the seasons turn around

And among them I walk, feeling you by my side

Holding my hand, following the stars as our only guide

And they turn dim in the golden sky, the night is gone

I am still there waiting for you to be back to where you belong!

…….a long time ago…..

Born in the mountains

As a tiny stream I flow

Destined to meet you

Following the only path I know

Forcing against the currents

Of the winds that come and go

Hoping someday you’d join me

Among the lands high and low

I would then cease to be a stream

And into a lovely river I’d grow

As we reach the sea, we’d be one

Like we were, a long time ago

And carrying the wisdom of the sea

Towards the sky’s heavenly glow

We’d fly once again

Like we did, a long time ago….

This was written for the Poetry Potluck 🙂 Hope you all like it!!

I am…..a rose

I was buried deep into the ground

In the dirty wet mud

I was bitten by the bitter snow

As I started to bud

I kept quiet as you stepped on me

Or chose to ignore me

I sobbed quietly resting on the womb

Of the earth that bore me

I did not ask the rain why it hit me

I knew I needed it to grow

I just listened as you complained

That my growth was too slow

I built a barrier of thorns around me

From the wounds that no one saw

And here I stand today…a beautiful rose

As you watch me bloom, with awe!

once upon a night

Flickering shadows on the wall
A dim light from the street lamp
Tapping sound as the raindrops fall
Upon the soil, now oh so damp!

Visions flash through my mind
Of places from forgotten past
And the dreams that were left behind
And the moments that just went too fast!

Of knights and palaces, and swords and horses
Of ghosts and witches and magical forces
Of seas and stars and skies and sands
Of peaceful nights in faraway lands

My heart goes back to them again
In a state of complete tranquility
Not bound by reality and its pains
Not held back by threats of inability

My eyelids slowly cover my eyes
I’m floating in a free open space
And as my sense of reality dies
I leave this world without a trace….

Lost

In a city that never sleeps,

I walked, lost in my thoughts so deep,

Oblivious to the crowd and the buildings,

Or to the rally of vehicles and their beeps

The streets look new; never seen before,

With their lights and turns and department stores,

Was this the place I grew up in,

played and laughed? ; not familiar anymore.

Gone is the playground and in it the ice-cream stall

On its place lies a mega mall……..

The sky no more sees the ascend of colourful kites

It has ended up being a vast empty wall

The pavement lined with trees, now left only with one or two

No one recalls that, or cares about it; just too many things to do

That banyan tree where we played hide and seek is no more there

Like the city and me, it must have got lost too….

…………today……..

Today I roamed…..

Like a bird in the sky

Going up so high

Beyond the limits of your eye

Today I played…..

Like a child with a toy

Everything but coy

In a world of peace and joy

Today I lived…….

Like the fierce old sea

Full of life and free

If you saw, you would agree

whole…..again

I let my feet touch

The damp cold ground

I shut my ears as such

To keep the sound

Of the world aside

And despite the pain

I let the rain

Fall briskly on my skin

Hitting every cell of my being

Drop by drop

Again and again

rain

Completely drenched now

Shivering in the cold

Yet I felt warm somehow

As a divine heat flooded my soul

Making it whole,

Once again….

………never apart……

The winds that blow through my hair

Must have surely touched you

The moon that stares at me tonight

Must be watching you too

These drizzling raindrops in the dark

That gently hit my face

Must have passed through your hands

Sometime, in some distant place

The flying pollens in the garden

Bring to me your fragrance

You must have seen them flying too

You must have felt their presence

The dreams that take me to you

Must have knocked on your heart

Tying us with a bond so strong

Like we were never apart…………..
